About the Presenters
Kelly Williams, Founding Pastor
Vanguard Church, Colorado Springs, CO
Kelly and his wife Tosha graduated from Liberty University in 1993 and from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1996. After completing their studies, they came to Colorado Springs to start Vanguard Church with the Southern Baptist Convention. In March of 1997, they launched their first service with just a handful of people, including two lesbians, a stargazer, an agnostic and one Christian who worked at Focus on the Family. Very quickly, the Williams had to learn a new evangelistic strategy, one that was relational and REAL rather than religious. Kelly calls this strategy “POINT Evangelism,” and he will share about it at this conference. This fall, Kelly and Tosha’s first book entitled REAL Marriage: Where Fantasy Meets Reality will be released. The Williams are also completing a second book entitled Raw to REAL, to continue defining what it means to live REAL. It is the Williams’ passion to help church planters, pastors and Christians in general learn how to better love people into a REAL relationship with Jesus Christ and others. The Williams have five children and live on a small farm in Colorado Springs.
Rick Clapp, Executive Pastor
Vanguard Church, Colorado Springs, CO
Rick and his wife Laura have served for eight years developing the staff and leaders of Vanguard through Leadership U and building the ministries of the church. Every month, Rick meets with Vanguard’s church planters either by phone or in person (currently eight).
In addition, Rick and Laura are the founders of Beyond Survival, a ministry started three years ago to invest into the lives of orphans and vulnerable children in Swaziland, Africa. Beyond Survival helps mobilize people devastated by HIV/AIDS by partnering to plant churches (three currently) and creating sustainability projects such as the Rose Geranium Farm in Africa. The Clapps have four children and live in Colorado Springs.
