Answering the "Why"
How did you think of the name "Vanguard Church" While working one day in September 1995, Tosha (co-founder) saw the word "vanguard" on her computer screen. She proceeded to look it up in the dictionary. After reading the definition, Tosha concluded that this term embodies what she and Kelly hoped to build someday in a church.
What does it mean? "Vanguard" is a military term referring to the soldiers in the front of an army leading an attack and giving other soldiers instructions on how to carry out the battle. "Vanguard" also means setting an example, starting a new trend, and being on the cutting edge.
How does the meaning affect Vanguard Church? Vanguard Church endeavors to be on the cutting edge of reaching the population who has given up on church and God. The people of Vanguard are attempting to do new things in a REAL and refreshing way as we go into the frontlines of battle to rescue those in spiritual, emotional, and physical need.
What is the mission of Vanguard Church? To love people into a REAL relationship with Jesus Christ. This requires taking the time to build relationships with people and getting involved in their lives. What does it mean to have a REAL relationship with Jesus Christ? To experience an ongoing private inward spiritual change that makes our actions like Christ's and moves us to involve ourselves in the public and cultural arenas for influencing inward change in others, culture, and society.

How to love others into a REAL relationship with Jesus Christ? Certainly there are many ways, but for the sake of discussion, we have employed a method known as "Point Evangelism"
Point Evangelism
Personal Touch: Look into their eyes.
Occasional encouragement: Be a consistent relationship in their life.
Interactively Listen to Them: Ask questions and then really listen.
Never Give Up on Them: Give them their space but keep loving them.
Tell Them the Good News: Jesus loves them and can change their lives forever.
Vanguard seeks to live this out in our personal lives and through the different ministries at our church.
