Welcome to the Hive!

Led by Middle School Pastor David Hausknecht, the Hive is a community of 6th-8th grade students and adult leaders who are learning what it means to follow Christ and be His people here in this crazy world. The middle school years are filled with so much change – physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. During so much change students need constants like real friends who love them, adults who consistently care about their lives, and our God whose love will never fail them. At the Hive we seek to have that kind of community that creates life-long friendships, relationships with trustworthy adult mentors, and an environment where students can feel free to worship God in any way!

Why does the Hive exist?  What is our purpose?
To love middle school students into a real relationship with Jesus Christ.

What is our model at the Hive?
We strive to fulfill the 4 “C’s” we derive from scripture (Acts 2:42-47; Matthew 28:19-20; Matthew 22:37-39):

• Communion – worship, prayer, encountering God’s presence
• Community – fellowship, building relationships within the body of Christ
• Character – discipleship, becoming more Christ-like
• Commission – evangelism, service, sending out missionaries

How do we accomplish our mission?
We have two weekly programs, on Sundays and Wednesdays, that vary in method while still holding to the same purpose of loving students into a real relationship with Jesus Christ.

On Sunday mornings (11:00-12:30), we have a time of high energy corporate worship as we sing songs of praise and adoration to God. We then have a time of large group teaching that comes from the topical series we are in. After that, we break into gender- and grade-specific small groups (e.g. 8th grade boys group) to individualize the lesson and ask the hard questions of application. On Sunday mornings we meet in Theater 1 at Vanguard Church.

On Wednesday evenings (6:00-8:00), we have Life Groups. These are groups of 6-14 students who meet at different homes in Colorado Springs for food, fellowship, and fun! This is an opportunity for students to make friends and hang-out in a very informal location while diving deeper into the topic that was introduced on the previous Sunday and learning what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.
